Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has proposed to conduct National Eligibility Test (NET) once a year and not twice, NET is a exam for qualifying entrance for College and University teachers and is also for selection procedure for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) Award. According to the proposal which is in early stages is being considered given the amount of resources required for conducting exam and number of candidates who appear in the exam.
Sources from PTI quoted saying: While conducting exam once a year will make candidates more serious about it, resources can also be utilised judiciously as holding a national-level exam is a massive exercise.
Out of 17% candidates who register and appear for exam only 4% clear the exam, currently NET is held twice a year in the month of January and July.
