Karnataka RTE Admission 2026-27: Dates, Eligibility, School List and Results
Updated: 19 October 2026. The main application and reporting dates described below have passed. The 2026-27 academic year is in progress. Check the department's latest notice before assuming a fresh application or an additional round is available.
Ka ataka RTE admission 2026-27 helps eligible families access schooling under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. For parents, the important questions are whether the child meets the applicable entry requirements, which neighbourhood schools are available, and whether an application has progressed from verification to allotment and completed admission.
This guide explains the published timeline, the documents to preserve and the steps to take if an application, school mapping or admission record needs attention.

Important dates and revised admission notices
The admission calendar changed during the cycle. The April timetable reported a first-round lottery on 25 May 2026 and school enrolment from 26 May to 8 June 2026. The department subsequently listed a notice dated 5 June 2026 conce ing second-round applications under a revised extended schedule.

| Initial 2026-27 admission-process notice listed by the department | 5 February 2026 |

Use the official circulars to establish which reporting deadline applied to an individual allotment. Earlier second-round dates should not be treated as final without checking the June revision.
What does the RTE quota cover?
Section 12(1)(c) provides for at least 25% entry-level admission for children from weaker sections and disadvantaged groups in schools to which that provision applies. Free education continues through completion of elementary education. Where applicable schools offer preschool education, the provision applies at that entry stage.
Parents should use the official eligible-school list. A private school's location, board affiliation or reputation alone does not establish that it has an available seat under the Ka ataka allotment process.
Eligibility: four checks before reviewing an application
1. Age and entry class
Check the child's date of birth against the 2026-27 RTE circular, its cut-off date and any applicable age-relaxation order. Do not transfer a birth-date range from a 2024-25 or 2025-26 article into this cycle. General school-admission announcements and RTE entry requirements should also be checked together rather than assumed to be identical.
If age was the reason for rejection, ask the BEO for the specific rule used in the decision. This guide does not give a fixed birth-date table because the exact current RTE limits could not be independently confirmed from the accessible circular text.
2. Category and income
Ka ataka's published legal guidance describes an economically weaker-section route with parental or guardian annual income below ₹3.5 lakh, alongside eligible disadvantaged-group categories. The annual circular determines the category-specific documentation and treatment. The income threshold should not be used as a universal rejection rule for every category.
3. Residence
Use the genuine residential address supported by accepted documents. Keep a record of any spelling, locality or house-number discrepancy so that it can be explained with evidence.
4. Neighbourhood-school mapping
Ka ataka's rules restrict private unaided RTE admission where a gove ment or aided school is available in the defined neighbourhood. The mapped locality and the relevant entry class therefore affect the options shown to a family.
If a school did not appear, request a review of the address and mapping. Changing an address simply to make another school appear can create a verification problem.
Documents to prepare
Keep the following ready, subject to the category and documents accepted in the official instructions:
- Child's birth certificate or accepted age proof.
- Accepted identity and residential documents for the child and parent or guardian.
- Income certificate where required.
- Caste, category or special-status certificate where applicable.
- Submitted application and acknowledgement number.
- Allotment details, reporting instructions and school admission acknowledgement.
Before an office visit, arrange copies in the same order as the details entered in the application. Keep originals separately and show them when requested.
How the application process works
- Read the circular for the correct academic year and check whether an application window is authorised.
- Use the application service linked from the official department website.
- Enter the child's details, category and residential address accurately.
- Review the eligible schools displayed for the application.
- Complete the required document or certificate verification steps and preserve the submitted acknowledgement.
- Check application status, allotment and school reporting instructions separately.
These steps explain the process; they do not announce that registration remains open in October.
How to check Ka ataka RTE results and admission status
The department homepage links to RTE Application Status for Seat Selection Process-2026 and RTE Seat Allotment Results of 2nd Round-2026. Open the relevant service through the official department homepage and confirm the academic year before entering application details.
Save the result and any instructions displayed. If the service is unavailable, take the application number and supporting records to the BEO. Ask for confirmation of both the allotment and the school's recorded admission status.
If there is a problem with the application
Prepare a brief written request identifying the child, application number, school, relevant dates and the correction or clarification needed. For a mapping issue, include the residential evidence. For a reporting dispute, include the allotment and proof of attendance at the school.
Ask for a dated acknowledgement. If a fee demand is disputed, request the fee description and its authorising rule in writing before seeking a review through the education authorities.
Frequently asked questions
Can I submit a new application now?
The dates above have passed. Check for a fresh official notice; an old application link or banner does not establish a current submission window.
Does an accepted application guarantee a seat?
No. Eligibility verification, seat allotment and completed school admission are separate stages.
Can I rely on a previous year's age calculator?
No. Check the date-of-birth range and applicable orders for 2026-27.
What if my child is still out of school?
Contact the local education authority promptly to discuss an appropriate current admission route rather than waiting only for a private-school quota round.
