Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship
About
Every year, the Aga Khan Foundation awards postgraduate scholarships to outstanding students from developing countries who have no other means of funding their studies, in order to build effective academics and leaders for the workforce.
The foundation prioritises master’s level courses, but will consider applications for Ph.D. programmes only in the situations of exceptional students who have received strong recommendations for doctoral study from their teachers and who require a Ph.D. to achieve their career goals.
Half of the scholarship money is considered a loan, and it must be repaid with a 5% yearly service charge. The loan agreement must be co-signed by a guarantor. The repayment period is five years, beginning six months following the Aga Khan Foundation-funded study period.
The AKF Scholarships for Ph.D. students are only available for the first two years of study, after which students must find other means of funding.
Through a competitive application process, scholarships are provided on a 50 percent grant/50 percent loan basis.
Applicants who have already started their course of study will not be considered.
Applicants should expect to be interviewed by a local scholarship committee about their financial condition, academic record, extracurricular accomplishments, and future career ambitions.
